First Impressions Start at the Steps
Your front steps are the first thing people touch when they come to your home. Cracked concrete steps with chipped edges don't make a good impression. Neither do wobbly wooden steps that creak when you walk on them.
Stone or paver steps say something different. They say this home is cared for. They look solid and welcoming. And they actually are solid, built to handle years of use without showing wear.
Types of Steps We Build
- Front Entry Steps: From your driveway or walkway to your front door
- Patio Steps: Connecting your house to your patio
- Garden Steps: Moving between different levels in your yard
- Deck Transitions: Stone steps down from a wooden deck
- Pool Area Steps: Safe, slip-resistant steps near water
Landings That Make Sense
A landing is a flat area at the top, bottom, or middle of steps. Good landings make steps safer and easier to use. You have a place to stand while you unlock the door. You can stop and rest if you're carrying something heavy.
We size landings to fit your needs. A front door landing should be big enough for two people to stand side by side. A landing in the middle of a long staircase just needs to be big enough for one person to pause.
Materials That Work
Natural Stone: Granite and bluestone make beautiful, durable steps. Each stone is unique. They fit especially well with older New England homes.
Concrete Pavers: Modern pavers designed for steps offer many color and texture options. They're strong enough for heavy foot traffic and cost less than natural stone.
Brick: Classic brick steps have timeless appeal. They work great with colonial-style homes and can match existing brick on your house.
Safety Features
Steps can be dangerous if they're not built right. We follow building codes for step height and depth. Each step is the same size as the others, so you don't trip when the spacing changes unexpectedly.
We also choose materials with good grip. Smooth polished stone might look nice, but it gets slippery when wet. We use stone with a natural texture or pavers with a slightly rough surface.
Match Your Walkway
Steps look best when they match your walkway. If you're doing both at the same time, we'll design them together so everything flows. Using the same or similar materials ties the whole entry together.
"Our old concrete steps were crumbling and looked terrible. The new stone steps they built are gorgeous. They completely transformed the front of our house. Should have done it years ago."
"We needed steps from our deck down to the patio. They matched the stone perfectly and added a nice wide landing at the bottom. Now we actually use the patio all the time because it's so easy to get to."
